Today, with 1.4 million square meters of area, it is one of the largest parks in the city and, certainly, the most frequented. In the language of the Indians who inhabited the region even before the foundation of Curitiba, Barigüi meant "Prickly fruit river".
It is not just city dwellers and tourists who seek rest in the park. Capybaras, preys, white herons, skunks, sparrows, thrushes and dozens of other native animals and birds make Barigüi their home. Among the leisure equipment are: barbecue spots, kiosks, bicycle and aeromodelling tracks, sports courts, gym equipment, parking, restaurant, Automobile Museum, Exhibition Park and Convention Center, Reading House, a Theatre and the Headquarters of the Municipal Environment Secretariat.
